Squeaky Clean Juice Feasting …Courtesy Of Fruveju Organic Cold Pressed Juice

Well well well, its a seasonal shift , and you know what that means ! ITS JUICE CLEANSING TIME !!
I was Lucky enough (or spoilt ,whatever) to be given the opportunity to do a three day juice cleanse with new juice baby company Fruveju  , they dont juice babies , but they are newly established (i was going to say fresh but my puns are too much sometimes)
Seasonal changes deeply effect our bodies, so during the transition cleansing and or fasting are really easy ways to seamlessly adapt . THIS ARTICLE DETAILS WHY TO SEASONALLY CLEANSE  (see at the research i do for you guys!)
¬†I chose the EVOLVE cleanse because i’m super evolved (side note , i know you hate these anecdotes but when I was younger I had a tooth that never came through and my dentist told me it was because in evolution humans are getting fewer and fewer teeth, so I am more evolved .. unfortunately i was bestowed by the older boys at school with the nickname “The Pirate”)

I have to say from personal experience I find it hard to differentiate one juice cleanse from another , green juice here , carrot juice there , celery EVERYWHERE (why!).. so I was kinda expecting the same old thing…

ALAS I WAS WRONG

 

this little cleanse had some unusual characters !  it was like an ensemble cast from a Garry Marshall Film (he did New Years Eve & Valentines Day if you are living under a rock sheesh)

I came to this one with trepidation, i’d heard of this combination because of The Master Cleanse and wasn’t keen on an al caliente kinda beverage . but the coconut nectar (so glad to not see AGAVE for once!) and the fresh lemon was so precisely blended the kick only came at the end but nothing lasting .. so basically you get the benefits of the epic cleansing minus the face grimace . arrribbaaa

aghh the all round good guy , the one you expect .. the green guy . it wasn’t too sweet but not too bland .. just what you would expect , I had 4 bottles a day .. its so nutrient packed that you don’t really crave anything , nor do you get those pangs of hunger or the tired lows .. he’s a sneaky little guru . he makes the cleanse sustainable .. truly

This wasn’t actually on my cleanse but I was given a bottle to try .. and thank f*ck .. Its so simple- just watermelon and lime , its now on my list of top juices EVER ! I found myself sipping it in bed and smiling , its like eating sweets but without the guilt . I cant even describe the deliciousness .. on the website they go on and on about the benefits ”¬†Watermelon¬†contains the amino acids citrulline and arginine, which help promote healthy arteries, blood flow and cardiovascular function” but its so unessesary because its like a guilt free cocktail,you’d drink it even if it wasn’t so good for you.

Again this one wasn’t on my juice cleanse but I was given a bottle any whoo .. called the Red Pineapple it features¬†pineapple, red apple, carrots, beets, ginger. ¬†I was so thankful that the ginger didnt have that overtaking zest most gingery juices has.. people go mental on the ginger in a juice .. its like why!! its so strong .. my throats on fire . anyway its an all round good guy .. I was actually getting the ol’ tickle throat when I started the cleanse so nailed this bad boy and the tickly throat turned into .. nothing! I think from all the bromelain (anti inflammatory in pineapple) Vit C (beets) antibiotic properties (ginger) its def a juice to put down in the Food As Medicine Book.¬†

The Creamy Dreamy One

Oh.Mah.Gawd this is a game changer , Fruveju had perfected the cleanse and a lot has to do with this little bad boy, it tastes like a creamy tangy almost yogurty milkshake .. its just sweet and thick enough .. I’m literally “mmmmmhhmmm”ing recalling it .. I don’t even know why someone isn’t selling cartons of cashew milk .. almond milk can go bl*ow itself .. Cashew is soooo 2013 .. no but f*ck this milk was heaven and it comes as your very final juice of the day , so just when youre feeling a little fragile and that maybe you need something more filling .. you get it .. its so good guys , I even very sneakily poured a bit into my cup of herbal tea! do you know what , even if you don’t want to do a cleanse I suggest you order this juice by itself which you can do (as well as any of the others)

I recently came across Rude health ( a health food company noted for its cereals and granola) they’ve branched out into milk alternative drinks . and they are great . good for the earth,body and mind . most notably they are one of the only almond milk brands that doesn’t contain CARRAGEENAN an additive that has shown to be cancer causing (WTF ! I KNOW ) along with¬†gastrointestinal issues .. its best just avoided (CLICK HERE FOR FULL INFO) .

As for the rice milk , its the only brand i’ve come across in the UK that uses Brown Rice, so you’re getting a wholegrain .. a WHOLE FOOD !! which is lower Gi (sugary basically) than white rice and more nutritious ! it also means it is broken down by the body easier . can I get a WHOOP WHOOP !

RECIPE 
 
1/2 tsp. turmeric powder (less if fresh root) 

1 cup milk substitute (rice , almond, oat whatever go crazy!) 

1/3 cup water 

1-2 Tbsp. coconut oil (optional but helpful for the flu-ey people because its of antibacterial properties)

raw honey/stevia/maple syrup to taste

ALSO PLAY AROUND WITH THE AMOUNTS OF TURMERIC and sweetness.. when you hit that perfect personal preference this is friggin delicious 

Boil water and turmeric in small saucepan over medium-high heat for 8 minutes (the turmeric must be fully cooked if not powdered ). Meanwhile, bring the milk and coconut oil to boiling point in a separate pan and remove from heat. Combine the two mixtures and add sweetness of your choice .

Donuts, sweets , pastries .. honestly do i have to list sweet things?? we’re not retarded .. basically everything processed, resembling funfair food or pretty coloured … dammit

WHY?

its an ENERGY THING , sugars are the easiest processed nutrient into energy .. therefore our bodies will look for it .. hence after work sweet TOOF!

OR

Its An Emotional Thing.. because sugar produces more insulin which helps tryptophan go to the brain , thus increasing serotonin (the happy chemical)

COUNTERACT IT:

¬†Emotionally you have to deal with that.. i cant help … but spikes in your blood sugar levels by eating refined sugar will actually deplete your serotonin further .. so its a vicious cycle …. basically pinpoint the emotional reason and deal with it without food . hard but what am i supposed to say .. get a shrink basically

The problem is that the more refined the sugar e.g white sugar , high fructose corn syrup (and agave sorry foodies ) makes the bodies blood glucose spike.. so we get a surge of energy and then a quick fall .. we then continue to do this throughout the day .. so its long chained sugar intake thats required  to stop this sugar monster , which is found in fruits and veg because  fructose (fruit sugar) is accompanied by water, vitamins, minerals, fiber and phytonutrients, so it assimilates into the body slowly and with ease

so allow for unrefined sugars or naturally occurring sugars , like fruits and sweet vegetables like pumpkin , carrots, parsnips etc .. natural sweeteners like stevia , yacon and maple syrup , coconut sugar .

Dates are amazing because they taste fudgy and delicious and will satisfy that taste but still have the fiber needed to make them slow releasing

ALSO QUALITY MATTERS .. instead of shitty chocolate .. by ridiculously expensive RAW ORGANIC DARK CHOCOLATE .. because you will feel so guilty you spent so much on it .. you wont inhale it .. and it has health benefits

Spicy Curries , Pizza, Mexican food … basically all that dirty food , Or even just dousing everything in Tabasco Sauce.. i know someone who travels with it , and has been know to withdraw from pocket at the most amazing times ..

WHY ?

Too Much Cholesterol & Fat in the diet

similarly with bitter foods spicy foods aid digestion by cutting through that stagnation. spices like Cayenne and chillies also speed up metabolic rate , which if you have high cholesterol or a high saturated fat diet .. your metabolic rate tends to be sluggish (ey fatty!) as well as aiding in circulation , spices are actually amazing for people with bad circulation … but its the forms it comes in which aren’t .. indian spices are great , but become obsolete when you’re eating them in a curry that has more saturated fat that a tub of Haagen Dazs (thats for real .. like actually )

People can crave The Spice O’ Life if they have a low vitality diet as well.bland or repetitive .. spice literally is craved to liven up the energy of the body and its spoken about vastly in Ayurvedic Medicine ( so if you always crave it like my tabasco friend, its good to read up on )

COUNTERACT IT :

like i said spices are great, craving them all the time is a sign you’re out of balance so make sure you eat clean and lean and sprinkling tumeric, cayenne, indian spice blends, ¬†chilly flakes are all great and should hit the spot .

This hemp is an entirely different strain of plant to Cannabis.. well the same strand as the vegan clothes.. but different form … they’re tiny nuts which are actually part of the fruit / flower family.. I’m confusing you .. especially if you clicked here due to the title.. dont get your dreads in a twist.

its basically a little nutty sunflower seed tasting .. soft textured superfood . it can be eaten raw.. made into hemp milk sprouted or shelled .

shelled is easiest as you just sprinkle it in salads or soups or breakfast.. just fling it about … hemp shower !!

delicious and nutritious .. it is the veg equivalent of a steak and its full of the new fashionable fat Omega 3.. good fatty good .

so facts:

30% make up of easily digested protein

all 10 amino acids

cholesterol regulator (so steak without the steak bad bits)

omega-6 to omega-3 fat which can help to improve your moods

Firstly I made the easiest rice milk ever.. I. am . so .domestic .

NO its great . no added oil like store milk alternatives . or salt or stabilisers blah blah blah .. plus when I strained it I slightly felt like I was milking a cows udder … and I immediately had a strange envy of the Amish . so soothing ..

It was delicious . butIi didnt use maple syrup .. I no likey maple syrup . so I did it with YACON SYRUP

¬†.. completely irrelevantly .. I have been on a hair journey .. I had become a Hair-e-krishna …too scared to cut or dye the f*cker because I have spent so much on Silica to make it grow like a beast .

but I believe¬†when your hair lines up with …. as oprah would say the ¬†“inner You” its a special time .

whats your health tip?
I always take Vitamin C and then I have a routine of these three shakes every morning:

– When I wake up, I squeeze a lemon, grapefruit and an orange to make a juice for my husband, my son and I.

– Then I mix a green powder [Original Superfood Greens from Whole Foods], wheatgrass [The Power of Grass, Whole Foods], chia seeds and water shake. It’s disgusting but you just have to drink it all at once.

– For my third shake I blend banana, chia seed, cacao beans, Camu and Maca oils.

Three Unexpected sugar alternatives , that are unprocessed and deliciously good for you .. i love stevia , but i know the processed liquids and powders are definitely not great for the body , and the dried leaves are impossible to find AM.I.RITE??

honey is boring . agave gives me the fear .. and aspartame .. dont even .. so i tried these random ones you may not know about . all better than sugar .. all delicious

the bestest: Yacon Syrup

Yacon syrup comes from the yacón plant and was used heavily by the INCAS it has plentiful nutritional properties and few calories alongside low sugar levels. yacón roots have been eaten by people with diabetes and digestive, renal problems .

its low in calories because the yacon contains up to 50% FOS (fructooligosacharides) consuming it¬† doesnt increase blood glucose (hence its diabetic friendliness) like every other sugar , fructose or glucose …and is instead a form of dietary fibre and sugar polymer both not absorbed by our bodies but instead¬† regulates good intestinal flora and boosts the immune system by feeding the probiotic bacteria( GOOD STUFF- NOT JUST IN YOGURT) .

It is usually made similarily to maple syrup using an evaporator and tastes similar to molasses , or caramelised sugar

GROSS WIKI FACT: In a study by Genta et al. it was shown that a daily intake of yacon syrup produced a significant decrease in body weight, waist circumference and body mass index when given to obese pre-menopausal women

mmm buttery : Lucuma Powder

Comes in a powder form and is derived from the lacuma fruit .

With benefits of being low in acidity ,low in sugar and contains an excellent source of  fiber,  B3, and minerals.beta-carotene, niacin, and iron

the taste is slightly butterscothy .. toffee-ness  good for mixing into tea or coffee or smoothies

SHWEETNESS : Dates Syrup 

mmm yes the finger licking caramel goodness … yes the fruit! it qualifies as a whole food.with only one ingredient in the syrup .. soaked /steeped/evaporated dates.. depending on if you make or buy it . similar texture and taste to molasses or dark agave.

is the least tooth achy sweet of all the syrups like maple and agave etc

contains potassium (more than boo-na-na’s!) , magnesium, calcium, iron, riboflavin, niacin, folate, phosphorus, pantothenic acid, and vitamin B-6.
