So firstly Chris Kresser is a licensed acupuncturist and practitioner of integrative medicine. if you dont know him .. you basically don’t know anything about functional medicine and I’m about to blow your mind .

His website http://chriskresser.com is a vast vast wealth of knowledge about everything from Gluten intolerance to baby nutrition .. in face he wrote a book called The Healthy Baby Code .. so he know babies .

so before you get engulfed in a deep dive of his blog/website and free E-books .. which really shouldnt be free .. so we’re ripping him off something major .. so now we know he’s charitable .. do you love him as much as i do ??

Probably his most useful resource is his PODCAST .. where people can record questions for him to answer … ad boy does he answers .

SO THE PERSONAL ANGLE … my mum has a blood disorder so i thought on a whim and a prayer i would write in asking about her current aspirin prescription and illness.. and i woke up this morning with a new little podcast nestled like a sweet little egg in my hand (Hi Iphone glued to head whilst sleeping) – so unhealthy .

He answers the or paradigm that ASPIRIN IS FINE FOR LONG TERM USE …. so even thought the question was specific about my mums condition its also so useful for those trying to figure out the pro’s and cons of the little white pill .

OUR GRANDPARENTS KNEW IT !! they remained sceptactle of margarine from the beginning … they new that you cant make something that looks like butter out of cotton and soy.. without  a WIZARD…or some kind of horrific chemical process .a lot of research has been done into the saturated fat issue .. and finally people have realized vegetable franken-oils are very likely the worst thing to happen to the human body since white bread (yeh don’t butter that sh*it please)

By no means is this a free pass to butter EVERYTHING . but if you must . avoid margarine at all costS and paste on some ORGANIC fresh buttery goodness.

I have a feeling  I don’t even need to detail this one anymore , last year fermenty goodness was all the rage . Whether Kombucha, sauerkraut, Kvaas, miso, tempeh or kefir was your crack . Anyone into  the healthy living thing (basically everyone) was consuming fermented foods like a fat kid at  a pick n’ mix.

and no longer will the fresh juices or smoothies suffice .. instead we replace them with some things that are a little more heavy and a little more warming ..and cue the first pop of the trouser button .. ohhh poop

matcha tea turns bitter above 180 degrees , so i wouldn’t recommend long cooking , but its great for warm soup or even RAW soups

remember hemp oil is a heat sensitive oil , so scorching hot soup is not a friend , unless you want rancid oil (ewwy) .. try having some on the table and drizzling over your pumpkin soup with a few toasted pumpkin seeds

WHY:

Transcendental Meditation What It Isn’t Good For ?.. Absolutely Nothing

ahh meditation , nothing makes guilt bubble up more than when you hear a friend/family member / or just some a*s hole on public transport exclaim .. “erhh ma gawd meditation has changed my life”

 am I right ?

I have to somewhat smugly confess I am now this a*ss hole .. HOWEVER , keep your judgement but one  moment longer .. it was after much searching and FAILED attempts at every meditation under the sun that i finally found my method.

its also the meditation of the celeb world.. which made me apprehensive .. as I bookmarked it alongside Kabbalah , those sneaker heels and tom cruise .

Yes i am aware it sounds almost cult-y , slightly complicated and like something only ghandi could master , but that is where its name does it no favours .

its far from all those things .

HOW TO DO IT ?

the technique is a simple and effortless mental process practiced for 15–20 minutes twice a day, sitting quietly and comfortably in a chair with the eyes closed. and can be learned by anyone .. including CHILDREN !

your teacher does a short prayer and provides you a MANTRA (nothing religious) it is simply a no-meaning sound that you repeat mentally.. you are not meant to verbally say the mantra or write id down ( so you don’t get visual pictures in your mind)

WHY DO IT?

because it requires no religious beliefs , no props (put down the incense and meditation pillow) and all those “how to meditate” books.

 ” you can be thoroughly skeptical and the technique will still be fully effective.”

Its also is completely portable , provided you aren’t driving a car , you kinda need your eyes for that.. but im a horrible driver so dont take my word for that

its mental benefits , read as long as the Harry Potter series …

Choose foods that are light, warm, and spicy. Tea with dried ginger and lemon is a great pick-me-up for Kaphas. Avoid heavy oily and processed sugars, which are detrimental to Kaphas. 1. Food is more important than nutrients. “The whole apple is far more than the sum of its parts,” Dr. Campbell says. Looking at a food as just a list of calories, protein, calcium, and Vitamin C, etc., is not enough. Taking a supplement for each nutrient in an apple, for example, is not the same as eating one (see numbers 2-4).

2. Nutrients in food vary immensely. So, if you want to eat exactly 1,000 mg of calcium each day, good luck. One handful of beans does not contain the same amount as another, even if nutrition facts claim it does. Beta-carotene in some foods can vary three- to nineteen-fold, and one study found it varied forty-fold in peaches.

3. Nutrients affect each other, big time. Magnesium influences the effects of iron, protein affects zinc, vitamin A acts differently when paired with vitamin D, and so on. So focusing on getting each nutrient is infinitely more complicated than taking a supplement for each one.

we f*cked up .. with AGAVE.. sorry guys but its official .. this delicious golden syrup aint no health food its highly processed and has a high percentage fructose sugars.. its up there with HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP .. woops that processed  sugar everyone is alway saying is killing us all and making our children hyper little c*nts …But seriously Fructose is the chain of sugar in fruit yes.. but it comes in minimal amounts in fruits .. coupled with fiber therefore is digested and released slowly and the bulk stops you from overeating .

 BUTTT when you condense it into a sweet syrup of high amounts of fructose its not good AGAVE IS ACTUALLY HIGHER IN FRUCTOSE THAN HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP with anywhere from 60-97 percent of it containing the fast acting sugars which cause weight gain , liver damage and inflammation .

 Dr.Joseph Mercola recently wrote an article on the issue stating ” Most agave “nectar” or agave “syrup” is nothing more than a laboratory-generated super-condensed fructose syrup, devoid of virtually all nutrient value, and offering you metabolic misfortune in its place.” … oh god

so put the squeeze-y bottles down . step away from the syrupy devil.

its an ENERGY THING , sugars are the easiest processed nutrient into energy .. therefore our bodies will look for it .. hence after work sweet TOOF!

Its An Emotional Thing.. because sugar produces more insulin which helps tryptophan go to the brain , thus increasing serotonin (the happy chemical)

COUNTERACT IT:

 Emotionally you have to deal with that.. i cant help … but spikes in your blood sugar levels by eating refined sugar will actually deplete your serotonin further .. so its a vicious cycle …. basically pinpoint the emotional reason and deal with it without food . hard but what am i supposed to say .. get a shrink basically

The problem is that the more refined the sugar e.g white sugar , high fructose corn syrup (and agave sorry foodies ) makes the bodies blood glucose spike.. so we get a surge of energy and then a quick fall .. we then continue to do this throughout the day .. so its long chained sugar intake thats required  to stop this sugar monster , which is found in fruits and veg because  fructose (fruit sugar) is accompanied by water, vitamins, minerals, fiber and phytonutrients, so it assimilates into the body slowly and with ease

so allow for unrefined sugars or naturally occurring sugars , like fruits and sweet vegetables like pumpkin , carrots, parsnips etc .. natural sweeteners like stevia , yacon and maple syrup , coconut sugar .

Dates are amazing because they taste fudgy and delicious and will satisfy that taste but still have the fiber needed to make them slow releasing

ALSO QUALITY MATTERS .. instead of shitty chocolate .. by ridiculously expensive RAW ORGANIC DARK CHOCOLATE .. because you will feel so guilty you spent so much on it .. you wont inhale it .. and it has health benefits

similarly with bitter foods spicy foods aid digestion by cutting through that stagnation. spices like Cayenne and chillies also speed up metabolic rate , which if you have high cholesterol or a high saturated fat diet .. your metabolic rate tends to be sluggish (ey fatty!) as well as aiding in circulation , spices are actually amazing for people with bad circulation … but its the forms it comes in which aren’t .. indian spices are great , but become obsolete when you’re eating them in a curry that has more saturated fat that a tub of Haagen Dazs (thats for real .. like actually )

People can crave The Spice O’ Life if they have a low vitality diet as well.bland or repetitive .. spice literally is craved to liven up the energy of the body and its spoken about vastly in Ayurvedic Medicine ( so if you always crave it like my tabasco friend, its good to read up on )

like i said spices are great, craving them all the time is a sign you’re out of balance so make sure you eat clean and lean and sprinkling tumeric, cayenne, indian spice blends,  chilly flakes are all great and should hit the spot .

so considering all this , as well as an active hunt for James Franco *naturally*  I have been unable / unwilling to post anything . but i’m learning loads and collecting lots to write about . sooo hold up peeps .. mummy still loves you
